The Bruce Lynton Automotive Group has been proudly sponsoring BMD Northcliffe Surf Lifesaving Club for a number of years, helping to keep our public safe on the Gold Coast beaches.
The Bruce Lynton Automotive Group financially supports the Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB’s) at the Club, which are essential pieces of equipment required in saving lives. Most Clubs require at least five fully equipped and operational IRB's at all times and at around $20,000 per IRB it's a large commitment to maintain.
BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club was established in 1947 as a volunteer life saving club patrolling the beach just south of Surfers paradise on the Gold Coast. Over the years, BMD Northcliffe has developed into one of Australia's premier Surf Life Saving Clubs having won every Australian Surf Life Saving Championship Club Point Score Title since 2004.
The club offers various activities for members from Juniors Activities to Masters. Over 300 volunteer active members patrol Northcliffe Beach every year from September through to May each weekend and all public holidays.
BMD Northcliffe also boasts a strong junior activities section with over 450 members that they see as the life savers of the future.
The Bruce Lynton Automotive Group has been a proud supporter of the Surfers Paradise Surf Lifesaving Club since 2015.
Our sponsorship involves the long-term use of a Ssangyong Actyon ute which is used for patrolling the beaches of Surfers Paradise, helping in our own little way to keep our public safe.
Jim Cavill is credited with having the major influence of establishing a life saving club on Surfers Paradise beach. With the building of the Surfers Paradise Hotel in 1925 he proceeded to look into every avenue of attracting customers. One such means was, of course, a surf club offering security to bathers who came to the area.
Jim had no trouble convincing local resident Charlie Walsh, who had similar ideas for some time. Even back in 1924 Charlie had shown great interest in life saving on the beach and could see the possibilities of the scheme. The proposal gathered momentum throughout 1925 and Charlie attended a meeting at Southport SLSC in November 1925 to study their set up.
The following month, from notes kept by Charlie, the first meeting of interested locals took place. Held at Jim Cavill's Hotel in December, and including Jim, local store proprietor Jack O'May, Bill Emzim, Frank Smith, Charlie Walsh Jnr and Arthur Bardsley, Charlie Walsh presented the facts of the situation and gave notice that he would attempt to provide life saving facilities for the public throughout the summer.
