Brilliant simplicity, unrivalled strength, and legendary ability: Defender is sure-footed and unstoppable, whether climbing high altitude mountain trails, crossing desert sands or deep-wading through rivers.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Full-time four-wheel drive
Permanent four-wheel drive ensures power is sent to all four wheels continuously, whether youīre on-road or off. Because thereīs no need to switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive when conditions change, Defender remains sure-footed and unstoppable.

  • Class-leading approach and departure angles
Defender is capable of tackling a gradient of 45 degrees, an approach angle of up to 49 degrees, a departure angle of 35 degrees and a ramp break-over of up to 149 degrees. And with a wading depth of 500mm, Defender gives its driver both confidence and control.

  • Dual-range transfer box
Whether Defender is towing, climbing or driving off-road, control of engine Torque is provided through a robust dual-range transfer box. This gives drivers more control and the flexibility of twelve forward and two reverse gears.

  • Locking centre differential
When confronting difficult off-road driving conditions, the centre differential can be locked, helping prevent differential action and forcing power to be split equally between each axle. This gives superior Traction over loose ground, mud, ice or snow.

  • Appropriate Throttle Response
Under normal road conditions when instant throttle response is desirable, the engine uses a Fast Throttle Control (FTC) setting where most of the engineīs power is accessible in the first 30 per cent of pedal travel. When low range is selected, however, the throttle reverts to a long travel setting to allow the gentle application of off-road power.

  • Electronic Traction Control (ETC)
Standard fit on 110 Station Wagon, ETC applies a braking force to any wheel found to be accelerating more quickly than the others. Power is therefore redistributed to the wheels with most Traction, giving improved grip. (not available on 130)

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
If any significant difference between wheel speeds is detected during heavy braking, the four-channel Anti-lock Braking System is designed to automatically reduce the braking force applied to that wheel, helping the driver to retain control. ABS is standard on the 110 Station Wagon. (not available on 130)

  • Long-travel suspension
Excellent axle articulation, thanks to coil sprung suspension, also plays its part in Defenderīs legendary ability (655mm for Defender 110) by helping the wheels to maintain contact with the ground and follow the contours of rough surfaces.

MODELS

This incredible versatility is partly down to a choice of two wheel-bases.

  • Defender 110
With the benefit of more seats and windows, there´s no better vehicle for transporting people and goods than the Defender 110. Seating can be split in the second row to make room for larger luggage, or removed altogether.

  • Defender 130
With the longest wheel base of all Defenders, the Defender 130 really is the ultimate utility vehicle. The Defender 130 version is also unrivalled in being able to carry five adults as well as a full payload.

FEATURES

  • Strength
Immensely strong it is probably the single most important component in Defenderīs design architecture and contributes to the vehicleīs strength, versatility, durability and capability. The box section, ladder frame design is far stronger than an open channel design and more adaptable than the unibody designs of many of Defenderīs competitors. Equally, Defenderīs lightweight aluminium body is tough, with a no-nonsense, functional simplicity and a slab-sided profile that makes it all the more adaptable and enhances configurability.

  • Wheels and tyres
The 110 Station wagon is fitted with a strong but stylish Boost Alloy Wheel with 235 General Grabber tyres. The 130 Crew Cab Chassis has a no nonsense heavy duty steel wheel with 7.50 tyre. Both of these wheel and tyre combinations best suit the intentended use of each model.

  • All-new facia
The new facia is more resistant to scuffing and to the effects of extreme climates. Whatīs more, practical shelves have been added to the lower facia. There have also been improvements to the instruments, with chunky speedometer and tachometer dials and smart white and yellow graphics. Also new is a robust two-handed passenger grab for support during extreme off-roading.

  • In-car entertainment
New 2007 Defender has CD radio and high-mounted tweeters for the first time, improving sound quality and clarity.

  • All-new heating and ventilation
The new interior includes an all-new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, providing faster front screen defrost and demist. The system reduces cold weather warm-up time by 40 percent and can generate cabin temperatures as much as 12oC hotter. The standard fit air conditioning cools the cabin in half the time taken by the model it replaces.

  • New seating
Passengers now travel in added comfort with up to seven new, adult sized, all-forward-facing seats with headrests and 3-point seatbelts. Seats can be easily stowed to accommodate a variety of loads. Itīs as tough as ever. It just got more comfortable and more versatile. 3rd row seats are optional.
