The Bruce Lynton Group originated in 1974 with Bruce Lynton securing Queensland’s second BMW franchise. The dealership was opened at the original Nerang Street site in Southport. For the next 12 years, Bruce Lynton was synonymous with many prestige automotive brands including Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Fiat, Lancia and Renault. In 1988, with the growth of the BMW marque, BMW Australia saw a new direction in “stand alone” dealerships, and so became Bruce Lynton BMW.
A new showroom was built on the Nerang Street site to accommodate the new direction for Bruce Lynton BMW and in 1991 a new service department facility was added.
In 1995, the Bruce Lynton Group moved to strengthen their brand positioning in the Gold Coast marketplace with the inclusion of the Land Rover marque. Following Land Rover’s inclusion to the Bruce Lynton Group, sales surged from 28 units in the first quarter of 1995 to nearly 150 units for the same period in 1996.
